Check the evidence.

One shared evidence release feeds Chichester Counts and the UK Facts Chichester section.

Version 2026-10-17.1. Official pages and original council documents reviewed by an AI agent on 16 October 2026. Not yet independently reviewed.

How we use the AQuA Book

We record the question, source, date, boundary, calculation and limitation. Automated checks test calculations and page consistency. They do not replace independent analytical judgement or amount to certification.

Public understanding and scrutiny; not individual risk assessment, investment advice or planning determination. Police and Census connectors are reproducible. Publication is a checked release, not an unreviewed live stream.

Source review, calculation checks and independent review are separate. See the check receipt for checks actually run, not a blanket quality badge.

Boundaries and comparisons

  • Chichester city: City figures here use the five-ward area in the council’s regeneration study. They are labelled separately from district figures.
  • Chichester district: The wider local-authority area, including Chichester, Midhurst, Petworth, Selsey and rural communities. Official area code E07000225.
  • West Sussex: The county responsible for services such as roads, education and social care. County comparisons are explicitly labelled.

Census 2021 values on Nomis 2022 ward boundaries; police neighbourhoods are different boundaries. Small counts can differ because of disclosure control. These are historical Census observations, not current estimates.

Same 24 months and categories for all areas. Records deduplicated by id, assigned by point-in-polygon. No nearest-boundary reassignment. Anti-social behaviour and British Transport Police excluded from crime totals. Coordinates are approximate published locations; unmapped offences absent. A police neighbourhood is not a Census ward. Rates use the latest population estimate, not visitors or commuters. Street-level data are police management information, not a survey or complete official recorded-crime series. Local authority boundaries are the stored generalised 2013 geography; selected authority codes are unchanged. Do not compare these rates directly with national survey rates.

Missing observations remain unavailable. We do not silently substitute county figures for city figures, convert absence of evidence to zero, or join unlike national and local crime rates.

Known gaps

  • Independent analytical review remains outstanding.
  • Five city wards are covered; full district parish profiles remain to be added.
  • Unmapped incidents and a harmonised UK-wide crime rate are not included.
  • Project-specific expenditure and completed benefits are often not established.
  • Some housing and economic headline series remain checked source transcriptions; not every publisher offers a stable API.

Both editions are built from the same release. New API observations require a successful check and deployment before appearing here.
